PERSONAL:
I have worked for most of my life in the areas of civil rights, community organization and small business. I, along with my brother, Alfred, manage the Alexander Funeral Home, Inc. It is the oldest African American business in Mecklenburg Co., having been started by our grandfather in 1914. I have also instructed courses in high school (West Charlotte, Harding), Central Piedmont Community College and university (Johnson C. Smith, Queens College, and University of North Carolina at Charlotte). I have actively and passionately served in various positions with the NAACP including service on the National Board of Directors as the NC NAACP President for twelve years. My interests have provided me with many unique opportunities to serve on numerous committees and boards on the local, state, national and international levels. I am an avid reader of history and science fiction. I have done radio commentaries, produced a television variety show (Experience) and radio music program (Talk to the People); radio commentaries (Metrolina Viewpoint), written op-ed columns (Charlotte News, Charlotte Observer, and Charlotte Post), poetry...and one of these days, I will write that book
